Being in a new or long-term relationship provides the opportunity of enjoying and sharing our lives with someone, having support and finding a caring and loving place where we can just be. However, sometimes the things that brought you together, the differences as well as the passion, may become the source of arguments, disappointment and distress. You might feel misunderstood or not supported and with differing views around important topics. When tensions increase between you and your partner, you might find that you are stuck in repetitive behaviours such as arguing, fighting or withdrawing none of which are an effective means of restoring the balance in your relationship.
The relationship issues that generally bring clients to counselling involve communication difficulties: resentment, frustration and irritation can arise if communication is insufficient or uneffective.
As a counsellor, my role is to be neutral and encourage you in the exploration of the concerns and the difficulties that you are currently experiencing. I will collaborate with you both to promote greater mutual understanding and to acknowledge the other's position. This will help you both in the re-establishing of a real and open communication and also to improve other relationships in your personal and professional life.
